August Meeting Highlights

Fran Held of Mitzvah Circle explained how easily organizations can receive household goods, toiletries, clothing, backpacks, shoes, period supplies etc from their 9,000 square foot facility in Norristown. Her organization hosts student interns who learn about supply chain management, policymaking, non-profit operations, etc. and one-off volunteer opportunities on two Sundays each month. Gerry Gonzalez of Child Guidance Resource Centers encouraged us all to join the Delaware County Resource Network (D.A.R.N.) on Facebook. He also shared his organization’s Facebook Live featuring three tips for heading back to school for children on the spectrum, and a blog on Simone Biles and Mental Health. Jamar Daniels of Amachi invited us all to set up information tables and family activities at the River Alliance’s Delaware River Festival on Oct 2 from 10am-2pm. A flyer is forthcoming.

Mandie Curtis Banks, Youth, Family, and Diversity Programs Coordinator for Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College, invites all to new free family programming including an Equinox festival on Sept 23 and family yoga. In our breakout room, a number of us picked up a tabled discussion of Rev Zuline Wilkinson’s wonderful idea of a student-run Chester newspaper. If anyone would like to serve on a focus group to formally discuss this or otherwise help make it happen, please email jeannine@chesteruplandyouthsoccer.org
